FINLEY AWARD RESULTS

And the winner is …

Big-hair, big-music musical Rock of Ages was a winner at the 44th annual Finley Awards, taking out the Best Actor in a Musical (Tim How) and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Max Gipson) awards at the weekend.

The show was the runner-up in the Best Musical category and was also awarded an adjudicator’s certificate for the production’s band – “Commitment to Character”.

The centre’s 2018 Production Season was also nominated for Best Set in a Musical (End of the Rainbow), Best Actor in a Musical (Matthew Arnold, Rock of Ages), Best Director of a Musical (Stephen Carr, Rock of Ages),  Best Actress in a Musical (Rachel Monamy, End of the Rainbow), Best Costumes in a Play (Murder on the Nile), Best Supporting Actress in a Play (Lis Hoffmann, Murder on the Nile), Best Choreographer (Allan Blachford and Claire Ball-Matthews, Rock of Ages) and Best Costumes in a Musical (End of the Rainbow).

General manager Kate McIntosh said it was pleasing that the skills and talents of people involved in community theatre were being acknowledged.

“It’s a wonderful result for Koorliny and goes a long way towards boosting Kwinana’s image as a place to enjoy quality theatre,” she said.

“We would like to thank everyone involved in our productions in 2018, and Kwinana Industries Council and the City of Kwinana for their ongoing support and belief in us.”

The ITA Finley Award is made annually to what is judged to be the best theatrical production in that year by an amateur group in Western Australia.

The Koorliny Arts Centre and Kwinana Industries Council 2019 Performance Season will include The Boy From Oz, Driving Miss Daisy, Tick, Tick…Boom! and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
