Learning to talk in a posh British accent and not to slump are just two of the things actor Ruth Bennett had to overcome to play the role of Kay Ridgeway-Mostyn in Murder on the Nile.

‘Although she’s a little bit entitled, she’s completely in love with her husband, Simon,’ she says, while applying make-up for the show.

‘I found the most challenging part in determining Kay’s character was trying to figure out how people spoke and acted in the 1930s. I actually watched a lot of Downton Abbey, with Mary as my biggest inspiration. I had to really focus on the accent, how they talk and even the pitch they use.’

Thanks to Katie E Williams for arranging this character study. Watch out for a character study of Kay’s former best friend (until Kay stole her fiance), Jacqueline de Severac. Watch the full clip here.
