Chicago stole the show at the 43rd annual Finley Awards, taking out the Best Musical, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Jon Lambert), Best Director of a Musical (Kim Angus), and Best Choreography (Allen Blachford) awards at the weekend.
The show was also awarded an adjudicator’s certificate for Male Ensemble – “Excellent Ensemble Work”.
Continuing the winning streak, Genevieve Newman won Best Actress in a Musical and Bella Freeman won Best Youth in an Award for Ruthless. An adjudicator’s certificate was also awarded to Ruthless for Backstage Crew – “Flawless Set Transition Between Acts”.
Stepping Out won the Best Costumes in a Play award.
General manager Kate McIntosh said it was pleasing that the skills and talents of people involved in community theatre were being acknowledged.
“It’s a wonderful result for Koorliny and goes a long way towards boosting Kwinana’s image as a place to enjoy quality theatre,” she said.
“We would like to thank everyone involved in our shows this year, and Kwinana Industries Council and the City of Kwinana for their ongoing support and belief in us.”
The Koorliny Arts Centre and Kwinana Industries Council 2018 Performance Season will include Rock of Ages, Murder on the Nile and End of the Rainbow.
